Successful Companies Train Middle Managers to Lead

I travel an average of 300 days a year; weekends, holidays, and in many countries and cultures. Here is what I have noticed: 95% OF COMPANIES DO NOT HAVE MANAGERS WHO MANAGE! They supervise, babysit, scold, and support but there is little leadership or vision at the level of Department Head or Supervisor. I tell teams that if they continue doing the same methods they will not allow themselves to evolve and have recently incorporated another element into the services I offer:
Train your middle managers to manage and lead their teams!
Sounds obvious right? Perhaps it does on paper, but it is hands down the biggest weak spot of every organization I work with. It is truly the missing link between watching employees every second for mistakes vs. trusting employees to do the right thing when you are on vacation. How do you train employees to make good decisions? Start by training managers at every level to lead.
